Believe, Decide and Keep On Going.
The only difference that I’ve noticed between Good Aikidoka and most people, is this conviction, this burning fire of ‘I’m not gonna stop at anything that doesn’t resonate. I’m not gonna stop at anything that feels like limitation. I’m not gonna stop at anything if it doesn’t feel true.’ So it is this perseverance, this confidence, this conviction in something more than what the mind suggests. It is a transcendent commitment.
And if you adopt that same attitude in whatever way that flows most naturally for your disposition, for your energy field, in whatever way it feels like it clicks in like a puzzle for you, this confidence, this conviction, execute it in that particular way. Feel into that state of being in that particular way, and do not ever believe that limitation is true.
During your Aikido journey (or life) I believe we go through three cyclical states:
- The need to have training wheels to do Aikido. You need instructions to do the technique.
- Your Aikido techniques are starting to work or your Aikido is sharper and you feel like you gone up a level.
- The next time you go back to class, you enter a new level and more questions rise that needed to be answered. You probably feel that your Aikido doesn’t work again and you are back on training wheels.
Trust yourself that you can do the level of Aikido that you are in. Trust yourself that little by little you are improving. Sharpen that level every time you go to class. The ‘Kaizen’ principle of incremental improvement is strongly present in Aikido. The answer is Go And Practice. Aikido is a martial art that the more you do it the better you get. Age, strength and speed are not the major elements in this art. Physics, distance, angle, timing and awase (blending) are some of the major keys to Good Aikido.
I believe the greatest Aikido key of them all is intention (belief). If you believe you can do it, Do It. Let no doubt stop you. Keep on going and your Aikido (or life) will be amazing. ‘Amazing’ is a decision you can make.
Just remember and quietly say this ‘thought’ every time you are bowing in at the beginning of the class.
Even the best masters were once students too.
Decide and Be Amazing.
